Exterior Decorative Concrete

 

There are many options for decorating exterior concrete surfaces, but what ends up being installed on your project will greatly depend on what are you looking for, your budget, conditions prior to application, etc.

  • Stamped Concrete:
    • Stamped Concrete is the best choice for new installations, when the concrete is being poured, color is added on then several other coloring treatment such as colored release powders, acid stains, water base stains, integral colors etc, are applied to make the concrete look like stone, slate, tile and other textures. The coloring choices are many as well as textures.
    • Stamped concrete may not be a good choice if you already have a concrete slab, the removal may be quite expensive and damaging to the surroundings.
  • Concrete Overlays:
    • There are many kinds of concrete overlays and many application methods to choose from, price will vary according to the desired finish as well as installation time and availability.
    • Stamped Overlays: Stamped Concrete Overlays are installed within a 1/4" and 1/2" in thickness, the method of stamping is very similar to that of stamped concrete and the results almost identical. The great advantage of a stamped overlays is that they go over existing concrete, the installation if fast, looks very pleasant and natural and the cost is lower than stamped concrete. Again, many choices of color and designs.
    • Knock Down Overlays: The Knock Down finish is done by spraying the concrete with a thin overlay mix through a Hopper Gun, this produces a nice texture that is cooler than concrete, can be made in many colors and designs and it is only about 1/8" or less in thickness.
    • Microtops: These overlays are almost paper thin and are used to provide smooth finishes over existing concrete, they are usually applied with a squeegee in several coats and then colored with stains or other methods.
  • Acid Stain: Acid Stain is a very good choice for exterior concrete slabs that are still in good shape, don't have many spalls, are relatively smooth and with only minor cracking. Acid STain can greatly enhance a patio or driveway with its natural old World look.
  • Other Finishes: There are a number of other coatings out there that may be applied on exterior concrete including ware base stains, soy stains, resurfaces and many more.
